Michelle & John’s Vow Renewal at Karang Saujana
Michelle and John’s vow renewal at Karang Saujana was all about colour, family and having a bit of fun with the setting.
Perched on the cliffs above the ocean, Karang Saujana gave us an incredible backdrop, but it was the details that made the celebration really stand out. Bold florals, a clear stage over the infinity pool, relaxed dining, signature cocktails and plenty happening once the sun went down.
A ceremony over the pool
The ceremony was set on a clear acrylic stage built directly over the infinity pool.
It created a pretty spectacular effect, with Michelle and John standing above the water and the ocean stretching out behind them. The stage was framed by an asymmetrical floral arrangement filled with deep reds, vibrant purples and crisp whites.
It was colourful without being overdone, and the flowers worked beautifully against the blue of the pool and the ocean beyond.
Their children were also a big part of the ceremony, making their way down the clear aisle before Michelle and John exchanged their vows.
Afterwards, the family gathered on the stage for photos before everyone moved on to the next part of the day.
Dinner with a difference
As the afternoon moved into evening, the focus shifted towards dinner.
Long banquet tables were set across the lawn beneath warm string lights, with gold chairs, crisp white linens and plenty of colour running through the table styling.
One of our favourite details was the use of fresh green grapes alongside the purple flowers. It was such a simple addition, but it gave the tables a really different look and tied in beautifully with the colour palette.
Rather than a traditional buffet, guests could wander over to custom thatched-roof food stalls set up on the lawn and choose what they wanted to eat. Signature lemongrass cocktails were also being served, keeping the whole evening relaxed and social.
It felt much more like a great dinner party than a formal reception.
Then the evening changed completely
Once the sun went down, the party really started.
A fire performance took place on the lawn, with sparks flying against the dark sky and the ocean beyond. It was a pretty impressive way to break up dinner and get everyone ready for the next part of the evening.
Then came the cake.
Michelle and John chose a simple rectangular cake decorated with fresh citrus and flowers, before sharing it together with their family and friends around them.
From dinner to the dance floor
After their first dance, the clear stage that had been used for the ceremony earlier in the day took on a completely different role.
It became the dance floor.
Michelle, John, their children and their guests were all out there together, dancing beneath the lights and making the most of the evening.
There was no shortage of energy, and by this point the formalities were well and truly over.
A celebration that felt like them
What made Michelle and John's vow renewal so much fun was that there was no pressure to follow a particular formula.
The ceremony was dramatic, the dinner was relaxed and the evening gradually turned into a party, with their children and closest family and friends right there with them.
From standing above the pool to dancing beneath the lights later that night, every part of the celebration felt personal.
And that is really what we love about vow renewals. They can be whatever you want them to be.
