Canggu and Seminyak Weddings in Bali

Canggu and Seminyak are Bali's west coast wedding destinations, known for beachfront villas, sunsets over the water, and restaurants and beach clubs close by. Couples often choose this part of Bali because the wedding can be the centrepiece of a holiday, with plenty for guests to enjoy before and after the day itself.

We've planned weddings along this coast, from Villa Phalosa in Batu Belig to Seseh Beach Villas and Villa Shalimar beyond Canggu. Each venue has its own character, from beachfront settings to private estates with gardens and room to host a celebration over several days.

Canggu or Seminyak: which area suits you?

Both areas offer beachfront villas and a good choice of accommodation, but the atmosphere changes as you travel north along the coast.

Seminyak is the more established and polished option, with restaurants, boutiques and well-known beach clubs around Petitenget and Batu Belig. It suits couples who want a stylish base and easy access to places for welcome dinners and post-wedding drinks.

Canggu has a more relaxed surf-and-café feel, with private villas and a busy food scene. Travel further north towards Pererenan, Seseh and Cemagi and the surroundings become quieter, with village roads, rice fields and dark volcanic sand beaches.

This part of Bali suits you if:

  • You want a beachfront or garden wedding with the ocean nearby.

  • Your guests are making a holiday of it and want restaurants, beach clubs and shopping within easy reach.

  • You're planning a welcome dinner, a pool day or a recovery brunch around the wedding.

  • You want plenty of accommodation options, from private villas to boutique hotels.

You may prefer another area if:

  • You want dramatic clifftop views. See our Uluwatu wedding guide.

  • You want jungle valleys, rice terraces or a quieter inland setting. See our Ubud and East Coast Bali Weddings guide.

  • You want complete privacy on the beach. Bali's beaches are public, so other people may pass through the area during your ceremony.

Planning a wedding on Bali's west coast

Choosing the season

The dry season, from April to October, is when beachfront villas are most in demand, and peak July and August dates go first. May, June and September can be worth considering if you want dry-season conditions with a little more flexibility.

Weddings are possible during the wetter months, but the venue needs a practical alternative to an outdoor ceremony and reception.

Sunset and ceremony timing

Because this coast faces west, a clear evening can give you the sun dropping into the sea, anywhere from about 6 pm to 6:45 pm depending on the month. We build the timeline around your exact sunset, leaving room for the ceremony, photographs and drinks before the move to dinner.

The beach is public

Even when a villa sits directly on the beach, the sand is not a private event space. Surfers, walkers and local ceremonies may be present, depending on the location and time of day.

Many couples choose to hold their ceremony on the villa's own lawn or deck, with the ocean behind them. This gives you more control over the setup while keeping the beach as part of the view.

Sound and the surf

The waves can be loud along this coast, particularly when the surf is strong. We plan the ceremony sound setup so guests can hear the celebrant, your vows and any readings clearly, even with the ocean in the background.

A rain plan

Beachfront lawns and open garden spaces often have little natural cover. We agree on a wet-weather layout with the venue before the wedding, whether that means a covered terrace or a marquee where the property allows one.

Traffic and transfers

Traffic is one of the main logistical considerations on the west coast, especially in the late afternoon. Allow roughly 30 to 45 minutes from the airport to Seminyak and around 45 to 75 minutes to Canggu, with additional time possible during busy periods and for venues further north.

We organise transfers around the venue location and guest accommodation, rather than assuming everyone can arrive at the same time. Staying close to the venue makes the wedding day easier for guests and reduces the risk of delays.

Where your guests stay

This coast has a wide choice of hotels and private villas. Seminyak offers plenty of accommodation within reach of restaurants and shops, while Canggu and the quieter areas further north have a mix of boutique hotels and private villas. We'll point you towards options close to your venue.

Music restrictions

Every villa sets its own music cut-off, depending on the property and local requirements, so it's one of the first things we check. If you want to keep celebrating afterwards, Seminyak and Canggu have bars and beach clubs to consider, subject to their own arrangements and availability.

Canggu and Seminyak wedding venues

Villa Phalosa, Batu Belig

Villa Phalosa is a private beachfront villa on the Batu Belig stretch of coast, between Seminyak and Canggu. Its lawn opens onto the beach with sunset views over the Indian Ocean, so the ceremony happens on the lawn and the garden is set for dinner and dancing. With accommodation on site and restaurants close by, it works well for weddings spread over several days, from a tea ceremony to the reception.

Seseh Beach Villas, Seseh

Seseh Beach Villas comprises two seaside villas with 11 bedrooms between them, set in tropical gardens in the village of Seseh, just beyond Canggu. It suits couples who want a quieter coastal setting and the option of keeping family and friends together across the villas. The lawns beside the pools take the ceremony and reception, with the beach as the backdrop. For a big guest list, lawn space is what sets the limit, so we check your numbers against it before you book.

Villa Shalimar, Cemagi

Villa Shalimar is a beachfront estate of three villas with 12 bedrooms between them, in Cemagi, north of Canggu, where the coastline has a quieter, more village feel. It's built for a larger destination wedding with family and friends staying on site. The lawns take the ceremony and a seated dinner, and the poolside areas suit cocktails and dancing. With a bigger guest list, the covered areas are what we look at hardest when planning the rain backup.

The Palm House, Canggu

The Palm House is a contemporary Canggu villa with tropical gardens, rice field views and a long swimming pool. It suits couples who want modern design and a garden setting rather than a ceremony on the beach, while staying close to the area's restaurants and accommodation. A seated dinner and a cocktail-style party use the garden and pool very differently, so we settle the reception style first and plan from there.

Real wedding here: Jordan and Reece

Villa Asante, Canggu

Villa Asante is a private Canggu villa with manicured lawns, rice field views and a distinctive T-shaped pool. The ceremony, dinner and party can all happen on the property, and the open-sided pavilions beside the pool give guests a place to gather between the ceremony and dinner.

Real wedding here: Minjoo and Sebastian

The Iman Villa, Pererenan

The Iman Villa sits on the edge of Pererenan village, surrounded by rice paddies and palm groves. The property has five bedrooms across two buildings, terraced lawns and a large rooftop terrace for sunset drinks. It suits couples who want a green, rice-field setting without moving away from the Canggu area, with the beach a short drive away. There is no large indoor space for the full guest list, so a marquee rain plan is essential.

Real weddings here: Pranita and Nathan · Mahnie and Mark

Further up the coast in Tabanan, well away from the busier west coast, we've also planned Devin and Daniella's wedding at Villa Lux Tibubiu.
