Sophia & Hamish’s Wedding at The Surga Estate
Sophia and Hamish’s wedding at The Surga Estate was clean, elegant and very much about letting the setting speak for itself.
The ceremony looked straight out over the ocean, with an all-white floral design, soft draping and chandeliers framing the couple. Later, the same space changed completely as the sun went down, with candlelight, flowing fabric and a long dinner table creating a much warmer atmosphere.
There were also a few personal touches along the way, including a custom wedding newspaper that gave guests a glimpse into Sophia and Hamish's story.
An all-white ceremony above the ocean
The ceremony took place on the clifftop at The Surga, with uninterrupted ocean views behind the couple.
White flowers lined the aisle and were used throughout the ceremony setup, while white parasols kept guests comfortable in the afternoon sun. Chandeliers hung above the ceremony, adding a little drama without taking anything away from the view.
Sophia walked down the aisle with her father before joining Hamish at the altar.
The ceremony itself was intimate and relaxed, with plenty of emotion and a lot of smiles from their family and friends.
Afterwards, guests showered the couple with confetti as they made their way back down the aisle together.
A few personal details
One of our favourite details from the day was the custom wedding newspaper.
Rather than just having a standard welcome sign or menu, Sophia and Hamish created their own newspaper for guests, filled with personal details and photographs.
It was such a simple idea, but it gave people something to look through during the day and made the stationery feel like part of the wedding rather than just another piece of décor.
The bridesmaids also had their own moment with the newspapers before everyone moved on to the reception.
Sunset portraits before dinner
Once the ceremony was finished, Sophia and Hamish took some time for photographs around The Surga.
The gardens gave them a completely different backdrop from the ceremony, and as the sun started to drop, the light became beautifully soft.
It was also a chance for them to step away from the guests for a little while before heading back into the reception.
The same space, completely different mood
As evening arrived, the ceremony area became the reception.
Long tables were set beneath flowing fabric and chandeliers, with white flowers, candles and soft lighting running through the space.
The all-white palette stayed, but once the candles were lit and the daylight disappeared, everything felt much warmer and more intimate.
It was a good example of why lighting can make such a difference to a wedding. We didn't need to completely change the design. The space simply changed with the time of day.
Dinner, champagne and the start of the party
Sophia and Hamish made their entrance beneath the chandeliers before settling in for dinner with their family and friends.
There were speeches, plenty of laughter and a few emotional moments around the head table.
Then came the champagne tower.
The couple poured the champagne together with their friends around them before cutting their wedding cake.
And from there, the formal part of the evening started to disappear.
Time to dance
Sophia and Hamish had their first dance beneath the chandeliers before the DJ took over.
There was plenty of energy on the dance floor, including a particularly good lift from Hamish, and the couple spent the rest of the evening surrounded by their friends and family.
The beautiful, structured ceremony from earlier in the day felt a long way away by this point.
Everyone was simply having a good time.
A wedding that kept things simple
What worked so well about Sophia and Hamish’s wedding was that it didn't need to be complicated.
The white flowers, ocean view, candles and lighting created a really strong look, while the personal touches made the day feel like theirs.
The custom newspaper was one of those details that guests could actually enjoy, and the reception was designed so that the atmosphere changed naturally as the day moved into night.
It was elegant without being fussy, personal without being overdone and, by the end of the evening, a lot of fun.
